Congress has taken on the municipal corporation and the district administration asking them to take the views of legislators and other leaders of Ludhiana before taking any decision on house tax.

The deputy commissioner, municipal commissioner and other officials held a meeting in which discussions on unit value of the property tax took place.

However, Congress MLA's among other leaders had boycotted the meeting stating that there were discrepancies in the proposal.

The MLAs had asked the municipal commissioner to first set the zoning of the areas in the city in order as they suspected that there was a discrepancy in marking of different areas of the city in eight different zones set for the property tax.

District congress chief (urban) Pawan Dewan on Sunday said the party would start a campaign against the MC and administration for putting burden on the common people of the city due to discrepancies in setting up the zones for the property tax.

“We would start a protest against the municipality of Ludhiana in case they did not listen to the representatives of general public,” said Dewan.

Dewan said that if no decision is taken on property tax by March 7, “Congress would be forced to act against the MC and start a protest.”

Leader of opposition and congress councilor Hemraj Aggarwal said that the MC should take the interest of all the residents of the city in mind and no burden should be put on them.
