Divisional commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu paid a visit to seven of the grains markets in the district and inspected the procurement work of wheat crop on Thursday.
Pannu visited the grain markets of Payal, Raikot, Jagaraon, Roomi, Salem Tabri and Mehdoodan to check the ongoing work of wheat procurement.
Pannu while taking to media persons said that out of the expected crop of 10.50 lakh metric tonnes in the division, 6.13 lakh metric tonnes has already been purchased by different purchase agencies.
He added that out of the total procured crop, 88% has been lifted from the grains markets while more than 80% farmers have been paid for their crop.
"For dereliction in performing his duty of lifting the crop, the contract of lifting the wheat crop has been terminated in Jagaraon grain market and the new contract has also been awarded so that the wheat lifting work do not suffer," said Pannu.
