Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said on Sunday that shopkeepers should not allow any rehri to be set up in front of their shops which caused inconvenience to residents as the roads get congested.
"Rehris in many parts of the city cause congestion as a result, people have to suffer.
Shopkeepers should not allow this to happen," said Gohalwaria, during the inauguration of a bridge on the Gill road near Bassi Hospital and Lifeline Hospital.
He said development of Ludhiana was the main agenda of the municipal corporation. "Development is on top priority and residents will start seeing the difference within a short time."
He said the cleanliness drive had shown results in the city.
The mayor had asked the MC to start a cleanliness drive. Thereafter, a drive was started in which most of the areas of the city were cleaned on daily basis.
Gohalwaria said greenery was also in the agenda of the MC and more saplings would be planted soon.
The mayor was accompanied by deputy mayor RD Sharma and senior deputy mayor Sunita Aggarwal.
The bridge had been constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. Many areas of the city, including Naveen Nagar, Prem Vihar, Haibowal, Chander Nagar, Pritam Nagar among others, would get easy connectivity with other areas of the city due to the bridge.
