Police here arrested the wife of a notorious drug peddler and recovered 200-gm narcotic powder from her possession on Saturday evening.
Nirmala Rani, 42, has been produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Rani, a resident of Noorwala Road, is the wife of Brijlal alias
Birju, who is facing 15 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Police assistant sub-inspector Kapil Kumar, who is also the in-charge of Dharampura police post, said Rani was arrested from a barricade near the municipal corporation's Zone-B office.

“We stopped her for checking and recovered 200-gm narcotic powder from a packet with her,” he said.

The ASI said Rani was already facing two cases of drug peddling. “Her husband is a habitual offender,” he said.

ASI Kumar said that other people related to the two were also involved in drug peddling and had a criminal record. “We have sent the powder for a forensic examination,” he said.
