Head constable held for smuggling illicit liquor

In yet another incident, a head constable along with an accomplice was arrested for smuggling illicit liquor in the city.
Police have arrested the duo and recovered six boxes of illicit liquor from their possession. A Chevrolet Optra car in which they were carrying the liquor has
also been confiscated.

The accused have been identified as head constable Swarn Singh and his accomplice Sikander alias Pappu of Tilak Nagar. Swarn Singh is deputed as gunman with Choudhary Madan Lal Nagga, vice-chairman of Punjab Traders Board.

A case in this regard has been registered at Salem Tabri police station.

According to Inspector Gurpreet Singh, incharge CIA staff-zone-1, the police arrested the accused from Jalandhar bypass on late Friday evening. The accused were coming from the Phillaur side. The police stop the car and on checking it found six boxes of illicit liquor.

The accused admitted that they procured the illicit liquor from Phillaur to sell it in the city to mint money.

In three other such cases, the anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing has arrested three accused Pankaj Kumar alias Tinku of Bajra Colony, Harwinder Singh of Bahadurke village and Narinder Kumar of Janta Nagar and recovered 15 boxes of illicit liquor from their possession. Cases have been registered against them.
