Home Guard jawan killed in mishap

A 50-year-old Punjab Home Guard jawan was killed after a speeding truck hit him at Kakowal Road on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Balbir Singh, a resident of Jaspal Colony in Basti Jodhewal. He was deputed in Sundar Nagar Police Post.

Balbir was heading towards the police post to join his duty. As he reached the Kakowal road, a speeding truck hit him from the back, killing him on the spot.

Passers-by huddled on the spot and nabbed the truck driver and handed him over to the Basti Jodhewal Police. The police registered a case for causing death due to negligence against the truck driver under sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC.

Balbir is survived by a wife and two married sons.
