The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organise 'Kisan Melas' in seven districts in March this year.
Director of extension education MS Gill informed this here on Thursday.
He said, a series of fairs including regional Kisan Mela would be held at Ballowal Saunkhri
in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district on March 1, the second fair would be held at Khalsa College, Amritsar on March 5 and the third one in Gurdaspur on March 7.
The fourth regional kisan mela would be held at Rauni in Patiala on March 11, whereas the two-day mela at PAU campus would be organised on March 15 and 16.
The regional kisan melas at Faridkot and Bathinda would be held on March 19 and 21, respectively.
He said it would acquaint and equip participating farmers and farmwomen with farm innovations, technical know-how of scientific farming and need-based agricultural-technologies for forthcoming Kharif season.
Besides, it would provide an opportunity to the farmers to visit exhibitions, interact with farm experts, discuss their agrarian problems and seek queries for the same.
He said the farmers could also purchase new seeds, planting material, and farm literature, depicting latest agricultural-technologies during the.
"Apart from spreading awareness about conservation of natural resources, and judicious use of agro-chemicals, the melas will create an awakening, among farming community, against the prevailing social evils such as drug abuse, female foeticide and dowry system," he added.
