In a written complaint to deputy commissioner Rahul Tewari, chairman of the District Industrial Facilitation Committee, the Knitwear Club charged an officer of the excise and taxation department with harassing the industry people.

The complaint, which was signed by representatives of other industry also, the club alleged that the industry was facing unreasonable and abrasive behaviour of one of the excise and taxation officers.

“In order to ensure cordial atmosphere between the entrepreneurs and excise and taxation department, a decision was taken that goods having a bill of Rs. 23,000 and above would not be subjected to any checking. But this understanding was violated on number of occasions,” said ETO.

The industry has also filed a written complaint against the officer after the matter was brought into the notice of Tewari at the committee meeting held early this month.

Tewari had asked the industry to file a written complaint against the officer and assured them to look into the matter.
