A violent clash between two groups was reported in Janta Nagar area over a long-pending property dispute here on Monday morning, following which one of the groups blocked traffic at Gill Road for over an hour.

Neighbours Avtar Singh and Nirbhay Singh, both residents of Janta Nagar, were fighting a case over a property dispute which was pending in the court from many years.

Nirbhay started demolishing the common wall of his and Avtar's house on Monday. When Avtar objected, a heated argument took place between the two and their supporters. Avtar's brother Jagtar Singh allegedly attacked the other group with sharp-edged weapons.

He was also reportedly accompanied by people possessing sharp-edged weapons. Nirbhay suffered severe injuries in the attack and was rushed to the civil hospital.

After the clash, Nirbhay's relatives and supporters staged a protest and blocked the traffic leading to a heavy traffic jam. Only when the police pacified the protestors, did they lift the protest.

The police have initiated proceedings to register a case against the accused. Shimlapuri station house inspector (SHO) Varinder Singh said, “We are waiting for the medical report of the injured. We have been investigating the matter and would take appropriate action.”
