The traffic police have initiated several drives against violators to curb traffic menace, but they too have proved futile.
The eight-laning work on the National Highway (NH-1) has resulted in chaos on the Jalandhar Bypass road, Samrala Chowk, Gyaspura area, Sherpur chowk and Sahewal area, as traffic congestions are apparent here. Traffic police have to struggle to control the flow of traffic at these places.

Construction of the expressway at the southern bypass is another trouble for commuters.
The police have closed the road from two places including Dhuri line railway crossing and the railway crossing between Pakhowal road and Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. The traffic here has been diverted towards Pakhowal road and Model Town extension.
MP Singh, a resident of Jawahar Nagar area, said, “Instead of starting several development works together, the authorities should wait before starting another project, as it cause several problems.”
Dhruman Nimbale, ACP traffic, said, “Since several development works are being carried oput, the traffic wing has diverted the traffic to other roads. Traffic police have been deputed at such places to control the traffic. The police also issue challans to violators.”
