Police have registered a case against accused Mohammad Sikandar, 30, of Janakpuri and arrested him following the complaint made by his wife Saviya Khatoon. The police produced the accused before court on Saturday, which sent him to jail on judicial remand.
Mohammad Sikandar is a native of Rani Satarpur village of Khraniyan district of Bihar and is a quilt weaver by profession.
After the death of his first wife Mohammad Sikandar solemnised second marriage with Saviya Khatoon around six months ago. This was the second marriage for Saviya Khatoon too as her first husband had died. Saviya has two sons from her first marriage, while Mohammad Sikandar had no child from his first marriage.
According to sub-inspector Randhir Singh, station house officer of the Division No. 6 police station, Saviya sounded the police on Friday and said her husband threw their three-year-old son Mohammad Sanaul alias Sonu on the floor and fled. She then took Sonu to the civil hospital, however he died on the way.
The post-mortem report revealed that the boy died due to severe injury on the backside of head.
Saviya told the police that Sikandar did not like Sonu and used to allegedly thrash him on petty issues. She also alleged that her husband deterred her from giving food to Sonu.
She said on the day of the incident, Sonu was not well and by mistake he passed urine on the quilt. In a fit of rage, Sikandar abused him and threw him on the floor and fled the spot. Sonu suffered severe head injury.
The SHO said the accused was trying to flee from the city to refrain arrest, but the police foiled his bid and arrested him.
