Suspecting her husband of infidelity, a 45-year-old woman, in connivance with her female friend, allegedly killed him by slitting his throat at the LIG Flats near Samrala Chowk in the wee hours of Thursday.
After committing the crime, the accused reportedly surrendered before the Division
Number 7 police. However, the police claim that the accused fled the spot after the crime and were later arrested from a naka.
The accused have been identified as Simran, a resident of LIG Flats near Samrala Chowk, and her friend, Rani of Tajpur Road. The deceased, Gurmeet Singh (35), was a resident of Amritsar.
According to police, Simran suspected Gurmeet of having illicit relations with other women. Therefore, she had deserted him and moved to Ludhiana from Amritsar around a year ago.
The couple had got married around two years ago. It was Simran's second married, and she has three children from her first husband, who had died. While one of her children had also died, the others were married.
According to sub-inspector (SI) Karamjit Singh, additional SHO, Division Number 7 police station, in a bid to pacify Simran, Gurmeet came to Ludhiana around 3 am on Thursday. However, after he went to sleep; Simran allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill her husband, and sought Rani's help in the crime.
Later, around 5am, while Rani allegedly gagged an asleep Gurmeet, Simran slit his throat with a sharp-edged weapon.
Sources said after confirming her husband's death, Simran went to the police station and surrendered.
However, SI Karamjit Singh claimed the police arrested Simran and Rani from a naka set up after receiving information about the murder. He said the weapon used in the crime was yet to be recovered.
A case under Section 302 (murder) has been registered against the two women.
