141 farmers booked in Lehragaga, Dhuri

As many as 141 farmers were booked and more than 200 detained in Lehragaga and Dhuri on Thursday for disrupting traffic.
Around 400 farmers staged protest against the arrest of farmers over the previous two days across the state. They blocked the Sangrur-Dhuri road for around two
hours.

Superintendent of police Paramjit Singh Goraya reached the spot and requested the farmers to lift the blockade. When the farmers didn't budge, the police arrested the farmers, including women.

Harbans Singh, a farmer leader, alleged that police roughed up women members. The police registered cases against 55 farmers at Banera police station.

The farmers were demanding a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to families of farmers who had committed suicides, implementation of Swaminathan report, besides release of arrested farmers.

Meanwhile, farmers also blocked Sunam-Jakhal road. The police arrested around 86 farmers.
