Three persons have been booked on the charges of duping a youth of lakhs and sending him to South Africa instead of Canada. The accused have been identified as Surinderpal Sharma, his wife Anita Sharma and son Aneesh Sharma. The police said complainant Gurwinder Singh, a resident of
Dhuri, said the Sharmas, who were his neighbuors, struck a deal of Rs. 6.5 lakh with him for sending him to Canada.

"They took Rs. 1.5 lakh from him but, instead of sending him to Canada, they sent him to South Africa in December last year," the police said.

Gurwinder claimed that he was caught in South Africa owing to his illegal stay and was also sent to jail before he was deported to India. Upon his return, when Gurwinder went to take his money back, the Sharmas threatened him, police said.

SHO Parminder Singh said raids were on to nab the accused.
