With state government failing to send a tableau for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi this year, the former deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh has demanded resignation of Punjab information and public relation minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

"The Punjab government has hurt the sentiments of the people of the state by not sending a tableau for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. Sadly enough, the Punjab government has committed a serious gaffe by missing a chance to exhibit its rich cultural heritage and lifestyle before the world," Bir Devinder said.

He said that highly-placed sources had confirmed that the officials of the state's public relation department, who were responsible for sending the tableau for the Republic Day parade, did not do their job appropriately and had prepared a third class tableau, which, eventually, the government decided not to send. "It's reprehensible that there was no top-level supervision," he added.

"The chief minister and deputy chief minister were more concerned about how to win the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee elections rather than focusing on the important affairs of the state and governance," Bir Devinder said, demanding resignation of the Majithia.
