Terming the Congress parliamentarians from Punjab "lame ducks", revenue and public relations minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday accused them of blocking state's due in central taxes and projects.

Addressing a big gathering at Prem Bagh Palace here in function that senior Akali leader Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu had organised to honour the new members of the zila parishad and block samitis, Majithia asked all eight Congress MPs from Punjab, including three ministers, if they were asleep when their colleagues from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh secured special packages for their states.

"The Congress MPs are now lame ducks of Sonia Gandhi, as after the anointment of Narendra Modi (as the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the public has made up its mind to overthrow the non-performing UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government in the coming elections," he said.

The role of Punjab's Congress MPs now was limited to issuing press statements, that too in Punjab only, said Majithia, adding that these leaders couldn't stand up for the state in Parliament.

"Show guts now when the UPA is about to extend the industrial concessions to the neighbouring states," he asked the Congress MPs.

The Punjab revenue minister said his government and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MPs would oppose the concessions. "Voters should pack up these liabilities in the coming general elections," he said, referring to the Congress MPs.

Rural development and panchayats minister Surjit Singh Rakhra and district planning committee chairman Deepinder Singh Dhillon were present.

Patiala MP in line of fire
Revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia asked the voting public of Patiala to not elect "a non-performing MP" again. He was referring to local Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who is a minister of state in the union government. Majithia said she had done little for the city or her constituency since 1998 and it was time the Patialvis handed over the responsibility to and Akali-BJP MP who could bring in central projects.
