A large number of students of different colleges under the banner of Punjab Students' Union and Naujwan Bharat Sabha staged a protest and blocked roads in Sangrur and Malerkotla on Monday.
Students were protesting against the move of Faridkot police wherein they had requested a court
to let them handover Shruti to her parents, while citing concern over her security.

Students were demanding an assurance from the police department for the safety of Shruti and her parents.

The protesters raised slogans against the police department.

District secretary of PSU Harpreet Kaur said that police had failed to provide security to girl students across the state. "How can police ensure safety of girls across the state if they express their inability to provide security to Shruti," she said.

Meanwhile, Bikar Singh, block president of NBS, said that girls across the state were facing harassment and humiliation at the hands of anti-social elements.
