Divisional commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu on Monday met officials of the district administration and purchasing agencies to oversee the paddy procurement process in the district.
He directed the deputy commissioner to coordinate with purchase agencies to ease the procurement criteria in
different grain markets. Farmers should not face any harassment and buying should be quick, he said. The government will also get into the market to purchase paddy.
Till October 7, about 1,000 metric tonnes of paddy has been procured in the district. District transport officer Gurpreet Singh Thind has order to brief transporters and truck unions about the procedure of moving paddy. Deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul also handed a detailed report on the arrangements to Pannu.
