Mid-day meal cooks under the banner of democratic mid-day meal cook front have decided to stage a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh on March 17.

Paramjit Kaur, district president of the front, said education department had failed to meet their long-pending demands, especially that of better salary.

"The government had decided to increase their pay from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,200 from December 1, 2011 but the department paid us amended pay from April 2012," she said.

She said they were paid half the salary for the month of December owing to winter breaks in government schools. "It was totally unfair as teachers and other staff are paid full salary during vacations," she said.
