Junior engineers (JEs) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) responded to the call given by the council of junior engineers (JEs) and staged protest rallies across the state in front of circle headquarters and projects on Tuesday.
As per reports, JEs from Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Jallandhar, Ludhiana, Khanna, Patiala, Sangrur, Bathinda, Mukatsar, Ferozepur, Faridkot, thermal plant at Ropar, Lehra Mohabbat and Bathinda held massive protest rallies to lodge their protest against the delayed settlement of their long-pending demands.
The junior engineers have also started boycotting stores, metering labs, revenue collection and theft-checking work from March 19, to continue till March 27.
General secretary of the JE's body, Davinder Singh, said the widespread resentment was consequent upon PSPCL management having failed to accede to the genuine demands of the junior engineers, despite consistent pursuance.
"The management even failed to keep up with its own assurances, repeatedly given at various meetings held in the past," he said.
The maind demands of the JEs are: revision of pay structure and allowances, with requisite differential, with effect from December 1, 2011; induction post-benefit; to stop the refixing of salaries of newly recruited JEs and recovery thereof; filling up numerous vacancies of additional assistant engineers (AAEs) or JE-1 through promotion; updation of seniority lists of JEs and AAEs; to stop excess recruitment of assistant engineers (AAEs); restoration of the eligibility of serving JEs for direct recruitment to the post of AE, and other serving employees to JEs; delay in holding department promotional committee (DPC) meeting for AEs; the issuance of promotion orders; and the acceptance of recommendations made by various committees instituted on the field difficulties of JEs.
