In much appreciation to farmers' fraternity, Patiala district has recorded maximum yield of sugarcane per hectare across the state this year.
In a recent survey conducted by state agriculture department, sugarcane producers from the state produced 7613kg yield per hectare as compare to 5888kg per hectare, recorded at the state level on the whole.
As per available information, this year, around 2000 hectare of area was under sugarcane crop.
Presenting the figures in the monthly meeting of agriculture department, Deputy Commissioner GK Singh said it is a proud moment not only for farmers but for officials too, which guided the farmers with hybrid seeds and technologies from time to time.
DC said in order to spread awareness and to implement crop diversification projects, cooperative societies will be constituted across the district.Singh added that societies will also work upon to improve economic condition of the farmers, having low or no agriculture land.
"The agriculture officials have been directed to insist young and women in the villages to adopt secondary agriculture occupations", he said.
