There was a fall in crime incidents in 2012 in Sangrur district as compared to the previous year, police claimed.
Senior superintendent of police Harcharan Singh Bhullar said number of theft, kidnapping and snatching cases has come down in 2012.
There was slight increase in
murder cases as compared to 36 murders in 2011, 40 murdrs were reported in the district in 2012 till December 23, of which 37 cases have been solved.
The theft cases have come down to 110 from 143 cases reported last year.
The police also claimed that 45 cases of attempt to murder came to fore against 50 cases last year.
The SSP said eight kidnapping cases were reported in the district in 2012 against 13 last year.
A total of 32 rape cases were reported in the district in 2012, he said.
Cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act from 386 in 2011 to 531 this year.
Bhullar said the police recovered 124.5 kg of opium, 73 quintals poppy husk and 564 people were arrested under the Act.
