Five people, including a woman, have been booked on the charges of looting and blackmailing an NRI on Monday. The NRI has been identified as Tejinder Sharma, a resident of Bikhi village in Mansa district, while the suspects are Raghbir Singh, Gurdas Kaur, Buta Sharma, Nirmal Singh and Balkar
Singh.

In his complaint to the police, Tejinder said after returning from Canada on January 30, he went to Sangrur to meet his friend (now one of the accused) Raghbir Singh. Tejinder said Raghbir told him that he wanted to introduce him to a woman friend, Gurdas Kaur, and took him to her house.

As per the police, when Tejinder was at Gurdas' house, she started getting intimate with him and threatened him of dire consequences if he raised an alarm. The accused also thrashed him, tore his clothes and clicked his naked pictures, the police said. “The accused deprived Tejinder of Rs. 47,000 and a gold chain.

They also blackmailed him, asking him to pay Rs. 5 lakh, else they will upload his naked pictures on a social networking site,” the police said.

City SHO Harinder Singh said a case has been registered and efforts are on to arrest the suspects, who are absconding.
