The Patiala administration on Tuesday launched a 24-hour women's helpline following national outrage over incidents of rape and eve-teasing. Deputy commissioner G K Singh gave this information.
He said that a team had been formed, under additional deputy commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill,
to listen to women's complaints. The team also includes assistant commissioner Inderbir Kaur Mann, district education officer Balbir Kaur Gill, principal of state college of education Neelamjit Kaur and the district programme officer.

The helpline could be reached at 0175-2311304 and 2311308 during the working hours (9am to 5pm); after duty hours or on holidays women could dial 0175-2311302.

A special cell would listen to the problems and complaints of the women and would also try to solve cases related to crimes against women. He said that women cops would also be appointed for patrolling outside schools, colleges, markets, railway stations and bus stands.
