A workshop on female foeticide was conducted by the civil surgeon office on Saturday.Eradicating gender disparity, improving sex ratio and saving the girl child remained the highlights of the workshop.
While addressing the gathering additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Anindita Mitra said, "The inequal sex ratio is the most important area of concern. If serious steps are not taken in this regard, it will lead to inequality in the society and hamper its progress."
Civil surgeon Dr Virender Mohi said there was a dire need to change the mindset of the society. "Sex ratio in the state has improved from 798:1000 in 2001 to 846:1000 in 2011, proving that the measures have brought fruitful results." However, those still practising female foeticide should be heavily punished, he added.
On the occasion students of Adarsh College of Nursing staged a play, on female foeticide. Poster and slogan making competitions were also held.
