The deceased has been identified as Balwinder Singh, while his brother Sukhwinder Singh received multiple injuries and has been shifted to a hospital in Ludhiana. Both were residents of Harigarh village near Dhanula in Barnala district.

The police said the incident happened when a overspeeding bus coming from Sangrur side rammed a SUV driven by Balwinder, near Harigarh village. The driver of the bus managed to flee from the spot.

Luckily, no bus passenger got hurt in the incident. Local residents and commuters blocked the road for some time, demanding immediate arrest of the 'erring' bus driver.
