After the central jail authorities recovered a mobile phone from a Pakistani inmate during checking, the Amritsar police have applied for his custody to know how he managed to procure a phone inside the jail. Talking to HT, Amritsar police commissioner Ram Singh said, "The recovery of a
mobile phone with a Pakistani prisoner is a serious matter. We have already registered a case and started investigations. We have applied for the production warrants of the Pakistan national, Mohammad Akram Choudhary. We will investigate from where he procured the phone and the people he was in touch with."

A case under section 420 of the IPC and section 42 of the Prisoners Act has been registered against Choudhary at the Cantonment police station.

The police will also probe whether Choudhary had been making phone calls to Pakistan.

Chaudhary, a native of Lahore, had been brought to the Amritsar central jail from Jalandhar three months ago. He had been booked under the Foreigners Act.
