SGPC to pay tribute to Nankana Sahib martyrs on Feb 21

The martyrs of the Nankana Sahib 'saka' (massacre) would be paid tributes at a religious function organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) at Dewan Manji Sahib hall in the Golden Temple complex here on February 21.
SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar would be present
during the occasion. A large number of Sikhs attained martyrdom when they marched to Nankana Sahib (now in Pakistan) to free this historic shrines from the British supported 'mahants', who refused to abide by Sikh rituals and traditions while managing the shrine.

A seminar on this important event, which was part of the 'Gurdwara Sudhar Lehar' during the rule of the British, would also be organised at Sikh Missionary College here.

A number of speakers including Dr Gurnaik Singh, former pro-vice vhancellor of Shri Guru Granth Sahib University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Balwant Singh Dhillon of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Dr Tejinder Singh, Dr Kulwinder Singh Bajwa and others wlould throw light on the 'saka' and on the 'Gurdwara Sudhar Lehar'.

SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur would preside over the seminar.
