A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act against DSP (rural) Manjit Singh and Kotfatta police station SHO Rajveer Singh for allegedly being part of the nexus indulging in stealing oil from tankers. The theft of oil was allegedly taking place in the covered yards
on the way to depots after their departure from Guru Gobind Singh Refinery, Rama Mandi, Bathinda.

SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar said three other accused -- Labh Singh, Gurmit Singh and Karnail Singh -- had also been booked for running the nexus. "The three used to pilfer oil from tankers at the covered yard and DSP (rural) Manjit Singh used to take Rs. 1.5 lakh and SHO Rajveer Singh Rs. 1 lakh per month as bribe to alow the illegal trade," said Brar.

Rajveer Singh was transferred to Fazilka recently, but he had not joined there yet. He has been suspended with immediate effect and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the SHO and DSP rural. Both police officials have been booked under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The SSP said the police had received a complaint about the nexus and SP (city) Dharamvir conducted the investigation in the case. Drivers of the oil tankers would also be arrested for taking the tankers to the cover yards, he added.

Both police officials and the three other accused are on the run. Police teams are looking for them.
