With the Moga assembly byelection due in February, the police are out to prevent the influx of weapons and cash in the district to intimidate and influence voters.
The administration worked out the security arrangement on Friday. Deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind, who is also
district election officer, called the leaders and candidates of all parties in the contest to hand them important notices from the election commission of India and the state's chief electoral officer.
The keeping of weapons and cash over Rs. 50,000 are barred during the election process. Station house officers will collect and deposit all the arms from urban and rural areas.
Of the 93 polling stations, 24 are very sensitive, 41 sensitive, and the rest safe, superintendent of police (SP) Dilbagh Singh Pannu has said. "The police have divided the constituency into 17 sectors for its security operation, and deployed two police patrol team in each," he added.
