A priest and his wife are charged with defacing a religious idol on Wednesday in a temple here. The police have registered a case against them of hurting religious sentiments.
The priest, Kailash Sharma, and his wife, Ratni, lived inside Panchayati Shiv Temple as its caretakers for
the past many years. "They defaced the idol on Wednesday after the temple committee told them on Tuesday to leave," said station house officer Gurdarshan Singh.
On the complaint of the president of the temple committee, Bhusan Kumar, the police registered a case at Bhucho. The suspects deny the allegation.
"The idol broke when I turned around and knocked it down by mistake," the priest told the police.
