Police booked three youths of Jhanjeri village in the district on Thursday on charge of assaulting the son of village sarpanch and suspended four policemen posted at Majat police post in Kharar subdivision for dereliction of duty.
Head constable Sarabjeet Singh, constables Bahadur
Singh and Gurvinder Singh and home guard Tilak Raj have since been sent to police lines as they failed to act on the complaint of Ravinder Singh, son of Jhanjeri sarpanch Surmukh Singh.

Ram Singh, Bharat Singh and Rinku were booked for wrongful restrain and assault on Ravinder (21) owing to an old rivalry with his father. The accused have since absconded.

“Ram Singh, Bharat Singh and Rinku assaulted my son Ravinder on Thursday. But the cops, instead of acting against the accused, rounded up my son to question him in connection with a fight among students of government school at Jhanjeri, with which Ravinder had no connection,” said sarpanch Surmukh Singh.

He alleged that the accused were spreading the canard that Ravinder had got a few outsiders to beat up school children. The three accused had assaulted Ravinder on this issue.

“We have suspended four police personnel for dereliction of duty and failing to act on the complaint on the basis of preliminary inquiry by Kharar DSP. Departmental action would be taken against the erring policemen,” said SAS Nagar SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
