Lawyer murder: Captain pays visit to grieved family

Former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday paid a visit of condolence to the family of deceased advocate Amarpreet Singh, who was shot dead in SAS Nagar on February 27.


Amarinder promised the family to raise the issue in Punjab assembly.

The lawyer was shot dead after he objected to parking of vehicles outside his house. Amarpreet’s cousin Gaganjot Sethi, son of former MC councillor Manjeet Singh Sethi, and his friend Simarjeet Singh, had sustained injuries in the firing. The police out of the nine accused named in the FIR have arrested four.

The local police had arrested Panjab University (PU) student Deepak Kaushal, a second year law student at PU, Jaswinder Singh, son of SGPC member from Ludhiana ( rural) Ranjeet Singh; Sunbir Singh, son of Dalbirt Singh, who is a partner in Alpha Mall at Amritsar, and his relative Omkar Singh.

Auto driver, aide held for outraging modesty of married woman

The local police have arrested auto driver and his aide for allegedly making an attempt to outrage modesty of a 22-year-old married woman on Friday. The police said the victim, who had been working in IT park, had hired an auto to her residence in Baltana.
