Renowned Marxist scholar Dr Prem Singh died at a private hospital in SAS Nagar on Tuesday. He was 84.
After graduating from Khalsa College, Amritsar, Prem Singh had joined the Communist movement and started working among the peasants. He was a member of the Communist Party of
India.

He was active during the PEPSU Mujahra movement (a peasant movement in 1950s) and the subsequent peasant uprisings in Punjab.

He worked as a senior information officer in the Soviet embassy in Delhi for 30 years. He did research on Punjab history and got a PhD from Moscow University. He also worked on the Ghadar movement and Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

His book, 'Soviet Collapse: How and Why'. The book explored the last moments of the Soviet Union that in which circumstances it had collapsed.For past several years he was working on Partition of the country.
