Assistant Commissioner(General) clears IAS

Phagwara-based PCS officer Dr Nayan Jassal (28) has cleared the UPSC main examination 2012, securing 888 rank.


Working as assistant commissioner (general) in Kapurthala, Dr Jassal was placed second in the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) examinations results declared in 2012.

“The result is a little shocking and much below my expectation. However, it is still a matter of pride that my name figured in the top 998 successful candidates of the country. I will wait for allotment of services before taking any decision,” Dr Jassal said while talking to HT.

“This was my second attempt at the IAS. I am working as a PCS officer, but I can also give another shot at the services. I will decide my course of action, after discussing the pros and cons with my family,” she added.

Dr Jassal holds a BDS degree and also worked as a radio jockey for Radio Mirchi, before joining the PCS.

“I always wanted to work for people and to to bring change to their lives. My experience as an RJ has helped a lot in knowing people and their problems,” she said.

Nayan passed her matriculation from a Convent School Hoshiarpur, did her plus two from Appejay School and passed her BDS from Amritsar Dental College.

Her mother Paramjit Kaur is principal at Government Arts and Sports College Jalandhar, while her father Dalwinder Singh Jassal is a joint director in Defence Services.
