DC orders govt officers, employees to follow traffic rules

Deputy commissioner Tanu Kashyap has asked government officer to follow traffic rules and emerge as role model for the locals. In a written letter on February 4, 2013  to heads of government departments, includings the SSP, the DTO, SDM and others she said that any apprehension or feeling among the locals that officials are above the law and can violate traffic rules at will neded to be dispelled immediately.

Speaking to HT, she said, "This issue was discussed in the last meeting of road safety meeting and it was decided that officers must first do what they demand the public to do."

"It is welcome step by deputy commissioner and I thank her for issuing such directions to all government officers andemployees. They should realise the importance of traffic rules, which will makethem good citizens into the society. Otherwise, it will bring bad image for thegovernment departments," said GS Toor, one of member of district road safety committee. He added that there a need to enforce such ideas including wearing of helmets, seat belts or limiting speed of vehicle and others traffic rules.

He said that the club has been studying the traffic culture of foreign countries and soon a handbook will be published listing and comparing all such sysytems and suggest changes that could help in better traffic management.
