Life-term for murdering mother-in-law

The court of additional sessions judge JS Bhinder convicted a Tibba Sahib resident, Balwinder Kaur, and sentenced her to life imprisonment on Monday. Her sister and two other accomplishes were also awarded the same punishment.
Harpreet Kaur was murdered in his house on the
intervening night of May 21, 22 in 2008. From police investigation, it had emerged that her daughter-in-law Balwinder Kaur had strangulated her with the help of her sister Parminder Kaur. Two of Parminder's acquaintances Manpreet Singh and Amrinder Singh, all residents of Malot, Mukatsar were also involved in the crime.

The motive was to grab Harpreet's property and ornaments. Balwinder's husband had been admitted to a de-addiction centre, when the convict murdered her mother-in-law. The court convicted all four suspects under Sections 302 (murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Parminder's minor daughter, Amanpreet, a co-accused in the conspiracy, is undergoing trial in a juvenile court.
