From now on, no marriage, bhog, private games or fetes on school premises.
All public and private functions on the premises of the state's government schools are barred, by order of director general of school education Kahan Singh Pannu, whose instructions to the district education
officers and school heads are clear.

"It has come to my notice that schools offer space for local-level functions, marriages, bhog, games, and fetes, and give students a break on these days," Pannu said here on Tuesday. "Apart from public holidays, the schools will not give any other break to students. If the school ground is outside the boundary wall, the authorities can let it only for games, but that too to people from the respective village alone and not on a working day."

If any school authority violates the instructions, the office of the DGSE will recommend action to the deputy commissioner concerned.

"We have passed on the instruction to the school heads," said district education officer (secondary) Paramjit Kaur Chahal. Varinder Pathak, lecturer at the government of Jawahar Nagar here also confirmed that the school had received the guidelines.
