PAU to hold crop produce competition on March 15

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is all set to organise a crop produce competition on the first day of Kisan Mela to be held on March 15 and 16.
Divulging details, SPS Brar, senior extension specialist (field crops) and convener of produce competition committee, said the mela
would see a competition of the recommended and approved varieties of vegetables, including potato, carrot, green onion/onion, green garlic, brinjal, radish, turnip, tomato, peas, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, green chillies, sweet pepper and many other seasonal vegetables.

Brar said the sample size of the vegetables, including potato, carrot, green onion/onion, green garlic, brinjal, radish, and turnip should be ten pieces whereas of tomato, peas, it should be half-a-kg.

The sample size of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and cucumber should be three pieces, while that of green chillies and sweet pepper should be 100 gm and 250 gm, respectively.

He further said the sample size of sugarcane (recommended varieties) should be five canes.

The entries for the competition will be entertained up to 11.30 in morning at the produce competition stall, near PAU's Kairon Kisan Ghar, he said, adding that the samples of the produce might be brought personally by the farmers.
