Swindlers drug, rob ex-serviceman in bus

Two swindlers, who boarded a bus from Phagwara, drugged an ex-serviceman and robbed his double barrel rifle, 25 cartridges and Rs. 24,000 between Phagwara and Ludhiana in the running bus on Sunday. Ex-serviceman Bachan Singh (64), a resident of Guru Nanak Pura, has been admitted to the
civil hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.

Bachan Singh was returning from Jalandher after visiting his relatives.

According to Singh, he boarded a bus from Jalandhar to Ludhiana at 8.30 am on Sunday.  When the bus reached Phagwara, two persons boarded it and sat along with him. The accused got friendly with him and offered him a cold drink.

He turned unconscious after drinking it. When he gained consciousness he found himself at the Jalandhar bypass. He then asked a rickshaw puller to ferry him to Guru Nanak Pura. His family members rushed him to the civil hospital when they found that his health was deteriorating.

Singh said the accused fled with his briefcase which contained double barrel rifle, 25 cartridges and Rs. 15,000 in cash. The accused had also stolen Rs. 9,000 from his pocket.

SHO of Salem Tabri police station Dharampal said the family had not filed any complaint yet. The police would take appropriate action after recording the statement of the victim.
