Villagers uproot Ludhiana-Chandigarh rail track near Khanna

The residents of Bhagwanpura village near Khanna uprooted certain stretch of Ludhiana-Chandigarh rail track here on Monday late night.
As soon as the railway authorities got this information, Samrala police was informed but by the time police reached the spot villagers had fled.

According to sources, the railway authorities had promised to construct a bridge which would connect the village to city, however, seeing callous attitude of the railway authorities, villagers decided to indulge in vandalism.

Women residents of village also participated in this.

The villagers while requesting their anonymity said that railway officials had promised to construct a bridge when they started constructing the railway track, however, they have failed to fulfill their promise and soon the Ludhiana-Chandigarh rail link would be up and running, and after that no one would hear our woes.

The villagers further threatened that if their demands are not met then they would go to Chandigarh railway office and sit on dharna there.

A case has been registered on the information of senior section engineer (North), Harjinder Singh. He has alleged in his complaint that villagers took away five slabs after uprooting and also broke five locks.
