All the elaborate arrangements of the district administration for the visit of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had gone a waste as not only did Badal junior reach six hours late, he stayed only for 15 minutes.
Sukhbir was scheduled to reach here at 10:45am to attend a
Kabaddi tournament and do a few inaugurations, but his chopper landed at around 3:15pm.
He was accompanied by revenue minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia and education minister Sikander Singh Maluka.
The delay was reportedly caused by bad weather and in the evening he had to attend party's rallies in Moga assembly segment for the byelection. Sukhbir spent a few minutes at the Kabaddi tournament venue and couldn't inaugurate a community health centre, new bus stand, block development panchayat office building and a link road, leaving the officials concerned dejected.
One of the senior officials of the district administration said they were preparing for Sukhbir's visit for the past four days.
“On Tuesday at 9.30 am, we got information about delay in his visit. Around 1pm there were speculations that the visit had been cancelled. He, finally, turned up at around 3:15pm,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa too had to wait for Sukhbir for around an hour.
