Demanding issuance of appointment letters to their 4,000 colleagues who had cleared the recruitment test, unemployed linemen, along with their family members, on Thursday held a protest rally outside the power corporation's office and stage a blockade at Fountain Chowk.

Lineman Union president Pirmal Singh said they were protesting against state government's failure to issue job letters to 4,000 unemployed linemen who had cleared the test conducted in 2011.

"We had duly cleared the exam conducted by the PSPCL in January 2011 to recruit 5000 linemen. However, the appointment letters were issued only to 1,000 and 4,000 others were left out," he said. He said now their family members too would join them during protests against the PSPCL management, which despite promises, was not listening to their demand.

After the protest outside the PSPCL office, the linemen later blocked traffic at Fountain Chowk, leading to massive traffic jam.

Meanwhile, the PSPCL authorities have asked the human resource development officials to conduct parleys with the protesters to resolve the issue.
