Tearing into Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s claim of inclusive development in the state, Ajay Maken, housing and urban poverty alleviation minister accused him of misleading people with false promises.

At an election rally in Ahmedabad, Maken said that under the Jawaharlal
Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the state government had provided houses only to 55,000 people. This was despite the Centre allotting money for building 1.39 lakh houses in Gujarat.

Calling the government’s delivery on its promises “an insult to the hopes and aspirations of people of Gujarat” Maken said that 73 % of the total admissible grant by the Centre had been granted to Gujarat.
