The rather dull match was meandering towards a highly predictable end, when, with the Kolkata Knight Riders needing a mere 18 runs off five overs, the proceedings briefly livened up. Making an appearance on the field, flaying pamphlets of some kind, was an intruder. Anyway, the security personnel were prompt enough to evict him off the field and let the yawn-inducing match run its course.

Memories of the heartbreak at Eden Gardens three days ago must have still been fresh in Gautam Gambhir's mind.

Not wanting to take any chances, the KKR skipper played sensibly and made sure he anchored the innings till the very end.

It was a toothless display by KXIP as they let the bowlers dominate despite a decent start. The contest was once again dominated by the KKR bowlers, who started from where they had left off at the Eden.http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/4/19_04_12-metro19g.jpg

They gave their team a winning chance by restricting the Kings XI to a modest 124.

Gambhir has been the best batsman for KKR and, leading from the front, he first took on Harmeet Bansal, hitting a six and a four to kick-start the chase. Brendon McCullum perished trying to force the pace after hitting a couple of boundaries. Jacques Kallis and Gambhir then knocked off the necessary runs.

KKR bowled with such control and precision that KXIP batters could only get nine fours and a six in the entire innings.

Aussie verses Aussie
It was a moment every cricket lover would have savoured - Adam Gilchrist vs Brett Lee. The former Aussie wicketkeeper was forced to retire due to a hamstring strain. Although he came back to remain unbeaten on 40, the innings never gained momentum.

Shaun Marsh tried to maintain the tempo but was out to a doubtful umpiring decision. Manvinder Bisla claimed a catch, which seemed to have bounced in front of him. For reasons unknown, the umpire chose not to refer it to third umpire.
