Nicknamed 'Big Show' for his ambitious approach on the field, Glenn Maxwell justified the tag in the Indian Premier League auction. The 24-year-old went for a cool $1 million to the Mumbai Indians, and since then has been the toast of the Australia dressing room. On his fifth trip to India, Maxwell told HT that he aimed to make it a memorable one. Excerpts:

How does it feel to have a team pay a million dollars for your services?
It's not something I want to think about too much. I feel flattered that franchises wanted me. It was a surprise and I'm grateful. Obviously, the IPL is straight after the Test series but it's still a long way away. I've got four Test matches that I'd like to be a part of, and that's my goal. I want that Baggy Green more than anything else in the world.

Why do you think you were in demand during the auction?
I suppose because sides are looking for players who can do a bit of everything. My spin bowling has come on a fair bit over the last year or so and playing with the Delhi Daredevils helped a little bit. I trained well with them, did well in the practice games. I didn't get many opportunities because we had so many world-class players.

How to you aim to tackle the pressure of expectations?
I don't read a lot of what is written in the media so I don't know what people are taking about. I see my job when I come in to play for Australia, not to make massive hundreds or take lots of wickets. My job as an all-rounder in this side is to fill a hole, to do the job that Australia need me to do and hopefully I'm part of a successful team which means I'm doing my job right.

Are you looking forward to sharing a dressing room with Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting?
I'm looking forward to being a part of the side but right now I've got bigger fish to fry with the Test series. It would be nice to bowl to Sachin during the Tests and get him a few times. I would have some bragging rights when I get to play with him. I was lucky to bowl to him a few years ago when he came over and I was playing for the Chairman's XI in Canberra. It was an amazing experience. He took me to the cleaners, so hopefully I get one back this time as I've improved a lot.

How do you aim to spend the money?
I do drive a shocking car but I don't drive it too often. I think my dad's in the process of selling it right now. I'm going to buy a house straightaway. I need to get my money into some property in Melbourne. It's a new phase in my life. I don't think I'll be buying a car, I'll probably borrow my girlfriend's.
