Shikhar Dhawan’s hopes of playing in his home Test on the back of his stunning debut century have been dashed by a finger injury and he is set to miss the final match of the current series against Australia starting at the Ferozshah Kotla on Friday.

The 27-year-old, who smashed
187 not out after recording the fastest century by a Test debutant, injured fingers in his left hand while attempting a sliding stop on the fourth day of the Mohali Test on Sunday.

He did not field on the final day and did not bat when India chased down 133 to win.

Skipper MS Dhoni said Dhawan was unlikely to play in Delhi and that a formal media statement would be made by the cricket board.

A team official said the player would undergo more tests to ascertain the extent of the injury.
