“Maine sab sach keh diya hain inhe, abhi tu bhi sab sach bol de [I have revealed the whole truth to the police, now you too should tell them everything honestly],” Vindoo Dara Singh allegedly told Gurunath Meiyappan, who is believed to have been Chennai Super Kings’ team principal, on Sunday when he met him for the first time after the T-20 betting scandal erupted.
Meiyappan is in the custody of the Mumbai crime branch, which is investigating the betting racket.
When asked whether the statements of Meiyappan and Vindoo matched, an officer said: “There is no problem between the two and they have been co-operating. They realise that we already know a lot about their conversations and that there is no point being evasive.”
After interrogating the duo together several times, the police sent them to separate cells in the crime branch lock-up, where they have to sleep on the floor. The duo is not allowed to get food from home.
The police said Vindoo had revealed a lot and named others involved in the racket, and that they want to corroborate some of the things he has said about Meiyappan.
“We asked for Meiyappan’s custody as we wanted to interrogate him and Vindoo face to face. Their revelations will play a key role in furthering our probe,” said a senior officer, requesting anonymity. “Vindoo has admitted to being involved in betting. Meiyappan maintains that he may be involved in betting but has denied involvement in any kind of fixing.”
