With probably the best bowling attack in the league, led by none other than Dale Steyn, the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s only worry has been about putting enough runs on the board.
Till the 15th over of their innings, KXIP enjoyed the upper hand as Hyderabad seemed like heading for a modest score.
But the script changed thereafter. Pathiv Patel, with a well-timed fifty, and some lusty blows by Karan Sharma and Thisara Perera saw the target swell to a competitive 150.
Darren Sammy then made good use of the pressure created by Steyn and Ishant Sharma to strike thrice in two overs to arrest KXIP's chase.
Sammy accounted for the dangerous-looking Adam Gilchrist (26) and Shaun Marsh (10) off consecutive balls and then snared the in-form David Miller (6) in the next over.
Earlier, Parthiv, who was dropped on two, went on to score 61 off 47 balls and stitched valuable 42 and 48-run partnerships with Karan and Perera.
Hyderabad looked like heading for a modest total with only 98 on the board after 15 overs. But the last five overs yielded 52.
