In another speedy disposal of a case pertaining to a crime against a woman, the court of additional sessions judge of Patiala sentenced a man to one-year rigorous imprisonment on Monday.
The trial was completed in just six days: charges were framed on January 11 and evidences examined on January 21 and 23. The arguments were heard on January 25, while the judgment was pronounced on Monday.

As per the complaint filed by the victim at the Sadar police station, Sewa Lal, a resident of street number 1, Bharat Colony, Nabha Road, had sexually harassed her near phatak number 23, while she was on her way to buy vegetables on May 18, 2004.

After a few days, as per the complaint, the convict had gone to the house of the victim and attempted to rape her, as she was alone. The timely intervention of the victim's daughter-in-law scuttled his attempts.

A case under Sections 354, 376/511 and 506 of the Indian penal Code (IPC) was registered against Lal. During the trial, judge Jatinder Kaur established that the accused outraged the modesty of the complainant, but the prosecution failed to establish attempt to rape.
